Dacia Sandero sales are stable in a market down -48.7%
New car sales in New Caledonia, a French overseas archipelago located north east of Australia, crumble a devastating -48.7% year-on-year over the first 9 months of the year to just 3,243 units, due to local social unrest. All major manufacturers except Dacia (-14.2%) at #4 are hit hard. Toyota (-51%) leads the way at 21.1% share, followed by Renault (-34.9%) and Suzuki (-41.3%). Peugeot (-47.8%) rounds out the Top 5 ahead of Citroen (-51.4%) and Hyundai (-40.7%). Nissan (-64.6%), Ford (-56.6%) and Kia (-46.7%) all fall even faster than the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down the charts, Honda (+457.1%), BAIC (+1800%) and Great Wall (+23.1%) all defy the cratering market.
Over in the models charts, the Toyota Hilux (-34.6%) dominates ahead of a strong Dacia Duster (-4.7%) up from #8 over the Full Year 2023 to #2 so far in 2024. It has potentially been helped by discounts on the outgoing generation, as the new one hasn’t launched yet here. The Suzuki Swift (-38%) is up to #3, distanced by the Suzuki Jimny (-26.4%) up from #15 over FY2023 to #4. The Citroen Berlingo (-43.4%) and Peugeot 208 (-47.7%) are in trouble below while the Dacia Sandero manages a stable evolution at #7 vs. #23 over FY2023. The Renault Master (+93.3%), Kangoo (+82.8%) and Toyota Rush (+28.9%) shoot up below.
