Shanghai Auto Show 2025: The most impressive Chinese brands

Image
We end our coverage of the Shanghai Auto Show with the most impressive Chinese brands. This list is entirely subjective and I take full responsibility for it! Hongqi I always had a thing for the luxury Chinese brand from FAW, arguably the oldest Chinese brand and the one used by Xi Jinping. They didn’t disappoint at the Show. The stand was grandiose and one of the most impressive in the entire Show, with a dedicated area for the ultra premium Golden Sunflower range. Hongqi H9 PHEV and HS9 PHEV New models included the HS9 PHEV and H9 PHEV. But what caught my eye was the yet unnamed new off-road 4WD towering over all other vehicles at the stand (see hero picture of this article). The brand is exploring a new segment with this vehicle, and one that is increasingly popular (Yangwang U8 and Zeekr 9X for example). The name will be decided by the public around the world, with the winner getting the car for free. We find the Hongqi signature – a red dash – on various parts of the vehicl...

Shanghai Auto Show 2025: the foreign brands

Image
As is the case every year BSCB had the opportunity to visit the China Auto Show, in Shanghai for 2025. Thanks to the help of industry superstar Felipe Munoz I was able to visit the Show for the press day. This is the biggest Auto Show in the world, hosted in the largest Exhibition Center in the world, as it should be. For the untrained eye, meaning those not following the Chinese automotive industry closely, the Show can be overwhelming with an array of local brands the general Western public wouldn’t know about. But for you BSCB readers, there is nothing to be surprised about as the advances of Chinese carmakers are well documented on this site. To say that foreign carmakers have been struggling recently in China is an understatement. Their market share has collapsed from 65% in 2019 to 35% in 2024. Last year at the Beijing Auto Show they disappointed. Faced with urgency to reclaim market share, joint venture companies seem to have finally woken up. Audi Audi is the standout for...

Media post: Your Vehicle Needs More Than An Oil Change to Keep Running All Year

Image
Some people look forward to the drop in temperatures, while others love the sun. However, the same isn’t true for your vehicle. The changing weather can cause your vehicle to struggle to maintain performance.  Before the next seasonal change, you need to do more than stop in for  oil change services . While a vital part of vehicle maintenance, it’s only the start. Following these tips can keep your vehicle functioning and help you avoid expensive repair bills. Don’t Ignore Seasonal Oil Changes An oil change doesn’t mean topping off the existing fluid. This is a messy process that involves draining all of the old oil from the engine, replacing filters, and pouring new the product in. Most automotive experts recommend  changing your oil  every 5,000 miles or so. However, you may be able to wait longer if you’re consistently using full synthetic motor oil. This may allow you to wait as long as 15,000 miles before scheduling an oil change. However, the mileage does...

Media post: How to Deal with the Aftermath of a Car Accident

Image
Many of us have been involved in minor car accidents where there was only slight cosmetic damage, and it was simply dealt with through the insurance provider. However, would you know what to do if the accident was more serious? Being prepared and knowing the proper steps to take can make a difficult situation much easier to handle. After all, car accidents are unfortunately very common – in the United States alone, there are around 6 million crashes every year, resulting in more than 3 million injuries and 40,000 deaths. Assess the Situation The first thing you’ll want to do is remain calm and assess the situation. Check to see if you or any passengers are injured, and call 911 immediately if medical attention is needed. With nearly 2 million drivers experiencing permanent injuries from car accidents annually, it’s important to get prompt medical care for any serious wounds. If the accident resulted in major damage or injuries, do not attempt to move injured passengers unless the...
