Uruguay April 2025: BYD up to record 2nd place

BYD holds 10.2% of the Uruguayan market in April.

5,078 new cars found a buyer in Uruguay in April, a -2.8% year-on-year contraction. The year-to-date tally is up 9.9% to 20,559. The Top 4 carmakers all defy the market decline with double-digit gains. Fiat advances 10.9% to 14% share vs. 16.9% so far this year, followed by BYD up 95.9% to 10.4% share, its second best below the 12% it hit in June 2024. BYD also accesses to the 2nd spot for the second time ever. Renault (+21.6%) is up one rank on last month to #3 while Volkswagen (+36.9%) is up three to #4. Completely imploding is Chevrolet (-51.4%) at #5 but still #2 year-to-date. Chery (+80.2%) also shines in the remainder of the Top 10. As a whole, Chinese carmakers account for 29.1% of the Uruguayan market in April.
