Slovakia October 2024: Skoda (+37.4%), Volkswagen (+86.3%) help push market up 14.8%

VW T-Cross sales are up 189% in Slovakia in October. After three consecutive months of decline, the Slovak new car market rally back up 14.8% year-on-year in October to 8,963 sales. The year-to-date tally tilts back into positive territory as a result at +1.2% to 76,552 units. Brand leader Skoda (+37.4%) vastly outpaces the market and reaches 22.9% share vs. 20.7% so far this year. Volkswagen (+86.3%) does even better and climbs two spots on last month to land at #2. The German carmaker advances to #4 year-to-date as a result. Kia (+3.3%) is shy whereas Hyundai (-5.5%) and most strikingly Toyota (-25.6%) underperform. Audi (+103.9%) and Peugeot (+19.9%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, MG (+183%), Nissan (+138.8%) and Fiat (+129.7%) stand out. Hyundai is the third best-selling carmaker in Morocco in October. 15,003 new Passenger cars and Light commercials found a buyer in Morocco in October, a splendid 17.2% year-on-year lift. In the detail, Passenger cars are up 14.9% to 12,972 and Light commercials surge 33.7% to 2,031. The year-to-date PC tally is 122,820, up 4.7% over the same period a year ago. In the PC ranking, brand leader Dacia (+15.1%) matches the market growth and holds a weak 21.9% share vs. 25.5% year-to-date. Renault (-12.9%) endures a mediocre month at 12.6% share vs. 15.2% but Hyundai (+58.5%) posts the largest gain in the Top 15 to repeat at #3 with 9.6% share. Peugeot (+14.7%) is more shy but overtakes Volkswagen (+57.7%) in great shape. BMW (+39.2%) and Citroen (+37.9%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Kia (+14.2%), Opel (+11.2%) and more strikingly Audi (-6.3%) underperform. The Perodua Axia is the best-selling vehicle in Malaysia in September. Malaysia has now well and truly returned to BSCB with September 2024 data now available and October coming up soon. 61,075 new light vehicles found a buyer in the country in September. Local brand leader Perodua has a tough month, going from 46.3% share in August to 38.8% now. In contrast Proton grows from 16.5% to 17.7%. Toyota is also in good shape at 15.9% of the market vs. 14.2% last month. Below Honda at 10.1%, newcomer Jaecoo surges from 1.1% share in August to 2.3% and #5 in September, overtaking Mitsubishi, Mazda and Mercedes. Chery advances 9 spots to #7 thanks to the addition of the T11 SUV. Zeekr lands at #46. In the models charts, the Perodua Axia passes the Bezza to snap the overall pole position. If the Axia shows stable shares at 10.4% in August to 10.6% this month, the Bezza freefalls from 14.2% to 10.5%. Ford Bronco sales more than double year-on-year in October. New light vehicle sales in the U.S. gain a robust 9.5% year-on-year in October to an estimated 1,327,300 units. Light trucks are up 11.7% to 1,078,600 while passenger cars edge up 1% to 248,700. Among OEMs still reporting monthly, Toyota Motor (-5%) goes agains the positive trend this month whereas Ford Motor (+15.4%) and Hyundai-Kia (+17.4%) impress. American Honda (+2.1%) is weak. Brand-wise, Ford (+14.4%) remains above Toyota (-5.5%) for the month but is still behind year-to-date. Hyundai (+18.1%) and Kia (+16.5%) surge ahead but not as much as Mazda (+58.7%), Lincoln (+36%) and Genesis (+20.6%).
